Optometry
What is an
Optometrist?
An optometrist,
also known as an optometric physician, is a licensed primary eye care
doctor. Optometrists detect, diagnose and treat eye diseases and can prescribe
medications for this treatment when needed. Optometrists specialize in
comprehensive eye examinations with dilation and prescribe spectacles,
contact lenses and eye exercises. In addition, optometrists are trained
in prescribing specialized vision aids and rehabilitative therapy for
motor dysfunction and vision loss from stroke. In Oklahoma, optometrists
use laser technology to treat conditions and provide pre-operative and
post-operative treatment for many eye surgeries in coordination with ophthalmologists.
